The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the Creator's hand, and therefore marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have occurred along the centuries, different civilizations, social structures and spiritual attitudes, exist in all cultures a sense of grandeur in marriage.

Sacred Scripture affirms that man and woman were created for each other: "It's not good that man should be alone". The woman, "flesh of his flesh", ie their other half, her equal, she was more like the man himself, is given by God as a "relief".

"Therefore a man leaves his father and mother and be united to his wife, so they are no longer two but one flesh" (Gen.2 ,18-25). That means an unbreakable union of their two lives, the Lord himself shows that remembering was "in principle" the plan of the Creator.

The law of the Church summarized in one paragraph the magnificent grandeur and sublimity of God's plan regarding marriage, at number 1055 of the Code of Canon Law states: "The matrimonial covenant by which a man and a woman establish between themselves a partnership of their whole life, ordered by its nature to the good of the spouses and the procreation and education of children, was raised by Christ the Lord to the dignity of a sacrament between the baptized".
